John Curran - unconditional
John Curran

John Curran has been captivating audiences with his music for over 25 years both as a solo performer and lead singer for The Masterless Men. From heartfelt ballads to energetic Irish-bluegrass sounds, John's ability to take people on a musical journey is truly amazing.

In the Fall of 2013, John Curran releases his first solo traditional album, entitled Unconditional. This collection of songs really reflects John's love for music as he has mixed some fan favourites with several original pieces. From beginning to end, Unconditional encompasses everything that is important to John – his deep connection to his Irish roots, love for music and his devotion to family.

“This album is something I am very, very proud of,” said John. “The title, Unconditional, truly reflects my commitment to creating intimate, sincere music. Furthermore, the song, which bears the same name, was written for my daughters. This album represents so much for me and really gives listeners a look into my life and what's important to me – family and music.”

In the making of this album, John invited several musical guests and friends to join in. Greg and Ray Walsh, Brenda Gatherall, Nelson Giles, Craig Young and Carl Peters all worked with John to make every song stand out and reflect the passion and soul that went into this recording. Renowned recording engineer Spencer Crewe was instrumental in bringing all this together!

Unconditional has three bonus tracks with vocal contributions from John's daughter Alicia Curran, his brother Wilf Curran and his father, Paddy Curran.

“I was so happy to have the ability to include my late father in this recording,” said John. “We recorded him singing over 25 years ago on a small tape recorder in Ferryland. We cleaned up the sound, added my guitar plus other instrumentation and it turned out to be something very special. I am excited to share this with everyone.”

Current fans will love this new album, and new fans will undoubtedly join in and enjoy the musical journey. John’s new album is a great mix of old and new that will delight any one lucky enough to listen.
Selections on the CD include: Black Is The Color, Bright Blue Rose, Unconditional Love, Hard Times Come Again No More, Isle of Hope, For Ireland I’ll Not Tell Her Name, Imagine, Isle Of Innishfree, Me and My Guitar, Mountains Of Mourne, Red Is The Rose, Ode To Age.

Bud Davidge - Back To The Bay
Back To The Bay

This is Bud’s fourth solo recording titled “Back To The Bay”.

Bud’s songs are about the people and the place that has defined who and what we are as a people.

The song Back To The Bay is in recognition of the Come Home Activities in the communities of Wreck Cove, Coomb’s Cove, Boxey, Mose Ambrose, English Harbour West, St. Jacques and Belleoram. Residents have over the years come into the communities from many of the other from Bay De L’eay to Femme.

The song Tommy Evans’ Boat is for my friend Tom Evans and the fine job he did in building the Jan And Brother. The song What Will I Leave Behind is a tribute to the many fine local musicians who have passed on but memories and their music remains with us. The a capella song Blooming Mary Ann is another I heard Jerry Fudge sing and we need to keep this old time style alive.

Steve Drakes’ tune Coombs Cove Saltwater Jig as played by his son John is in recognition of another fine musician who is now aged and feeble but his love for the accordion and of music we will always cherish.

Three Wishes many will remember from the well known version done by Doc Williams, long ago.

Also included on this CD is a live track of SIMANI recorded live at May’s lounge in the 80's to feature Sim’s music and our good times gone but not forgotten.

Our culture is the sum total of our stories, and Bud Davidge can still write songs that express life and happenings in outport Newfoundland.

Selections on the CD are: Back To The Bay, Love Keeps Hangin’ On, Three Wishes, Debbie’s Waltz, Uncle Steve Drakes/Coombs Cove Saltwater Jig, Tommy Evan’s Boat, What Will I Leave Behind, My Blooming Mary Ann, Light In The Window, The Old Man And His Horn.

Bud Davidge - Black & White
Black & White

Although they no longer perform together this CD has the feel of a SIMANI recording. Maybe it’s because it was recorded in Sim’s Studio and Sim provided most of the music and the vocals are all Bud Davidge’s.

This is Bud’s third solo recording titled “Black and White” for several reasons. The original songs are about stark realities where the issues are life and death, endings and beginnings, knowns and unknowns. In other words issues that so often defined what reality has always been for outport people here on the edge of the continent.

The majority of the songs were written by Bud Davidge and they tell stories of real Newfoundland events, history and tales of tragedy.

“Black and White” aims to use its symbolic power because though he doesn’t know the prople in the photo he can appreciate the depth of meaning in the photo and their probable thoughts and emotions, though hidden from the faces and unspoken in the silence of a still timeless moment.

The “Marshall Frank” and “Sheila Patricia” are real stories in the fishery and relate to peril and bravery of our common hardworking people and their life and death struggle with the sea.

Our culture is the sum total of our stories, and Bud Davidge can still write songs that express life and happenings in outport Newfoundland.

Selections on the CD are: Black And White • Ain’t That Bad Enough • The Sheila Patricia Story • Heart Of The Home • The Fight In Muddy Hole • Jigs (Serpentine Jig / Ise Da Boy) • Little Blue Forget Me Not • The Marshall Frank Story • Mother’s Wedding Ring • Sing The Galveston Rose • Only Yesterday

Bud Davidge - This Is My Father's House
This Is My Father's House

The title song "This Is My Father's House" is dedicated to the Point Rosie Church and my father's part in it's creation. The song is also in recognition of all of the other Newfoundland Churches which survived resettlement and lived again to serve the faithful in a new home.

Larry Foley - Come Along With Me Bys
Come Along With Me Bys

After almost twenty years of writing, recording, producing music and fronting such bands as The Punters and The 8 Track Favourites Larry Foley has emerged to put his stamp on a body of work which is quickly establishing him as a solo performer.

“Come Along With Me Bys” a new compilation is a reflection of his roots and his love of a good song.

I’m sure that when you are sitting back and relaxing with your favourite brew you will enjoy this collection of songs that you will surely be singing along with.

The CD features a new song “Boats To Build” as well as many Newfoundland standards. .

Included on this CD are 3 songs from the pen of Ron Hynes “Sonny’s Dream, St. John’s Waltz & “Back Home On The Island” Ron was a good friend of Larry, and his rendition of these songs would make Ron proud.

The vast majority of these songs are very well known in Newfoundland, such as “Signal Hill”, “Newfoundland Blessing”, Fisherman’s Boy”, “Fiddler’s Green” & “A Couple More Years”.

“Gulf Of Mexico” a Steve Earle song describes the perils of drilling in the ocean for oil, as we saw in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and is poignant to Newfoundland as we have oil drilling in the ocean off Newfoundland.

Selections on the CD include: Boats to Build, St. John's Waltz, Signal Hill, Newfoundland Blessing, Sonny’s Dream, Fisherman's Boy, Fiddler's Green, Gulf of Mexico, A Couple More Years, Back Home On The Island, Ramblin' Boy, Somebody's Waiting For Me, Boots of Spanish Leather

Free & Easy - Larry Foley
Free & Easy

After almost twenty years of writing, recording, producing music and fronting such bands as The Punters and The 8 Track Favourites Larry Foley has emerged to put his stamp on a body of work which is quickly establishing him as a solo performer.

His new, self-produced recording is a reflection of his roots and his love of a good song.

Here is how Larry describes the process in recording this CD: One real nice day last fall (2011), I put on the tape of my grandfather singing. It's not always easy to do. Here I was, just turned forty, with a boy of my own, sitting in my own recording studio. Towards the end of side B, “Sweet Forget Me Not” appears in the speakers and as I absorb the beauty of his rendition, the tape cuts off. I was again poisoned. Then I figured, I'd just fix it. I managed to get his voice into my computer and set to accompanying him and making a duet of the unfinished work.

That was the beginning of this recording. I added the odd song that was a favourite around our house and stuff that I just heard and liked that seemed to fit. I heard “Medals Galore” (as I call it) at the St. Patrick's concert in St. Mary's (where my wife is from). Dad always like “McClory”. My Aunt Rose-Marie always sings the “Port Royal Song” at family gatherings. My cousin Ger in Grand Falls gave me a tape of Wat Brien, that's where “Free and Easy” came from. I wrote “Spyglass” in the midst of making this recording after a conversation with my father. That's how it came together. So it is very much a collection of folk songs with personal connections. I'm sure many people have similar ties to some of these songs.

The CD also features other great songs such as “Gulf Of Mexico”, “I Don’t Care”, “Land Of Dreams”, “Sonny’s Dream”, “Island Lady”, and “Streets Of London”.

Selections on the CD include: Gulf Of Mexico, Sonny’s Dream, Island Lady, Got To Be An End, Land Of Dreams, McClory, Streets Of London, Nedals Galore, Spyglass, Dance In Port Royal, Potluck Polkas, Sweet Forget Me Not, Free & Easy.

After almost twenty years of writing, recording, producing music and fronting such bands as The Punters and The 8 Track Favourites Larry Foley has emerged to put his stamp on a body of work which is quickly establishing him as a solo performer.

His new, self -produced recording is a reflection of his roots, his love of a good song and his long-standing, creative relationship with such musicians as Sandy Morris (WGB) and Chris Ledrew (Bros. in Stereo). It also showcases his unique sound with fiddler Patrick Moran, with whom Larry has performed and recorded with almost exclusively, for over 15 years.

While, "Old Smile" walks through the universal theme of the passage of time and "Singing on the Wind" is a quintessential ballad of love and loss, written in the celtic tradition, but with a western sound.

Harry Hibbs - Off The Floor (Songs From The Harry Hibbs Shows)
Harry Hibbs Off The Floor

Between 1969 and 1976, a phenomenon of Canadian television happened when an unlikely star rose in the form of Harry Hibbs. The shy accordion player from Bell Island Newfoundland was featured weekly in a show first hosted from the Caribou Club in Toronto, and then from the Newfoundland Club in Galt, Ontario (now Cambridge).

The shows were aired on CHCH Hamilton and despite reaching over 100,000 viewers weekly in Eastern Canada, it was never shown in Harry's homeland.

Terry Hynes was a show host & the guitarist for At The Caribou and he remembered, "People would dress up like they were going to a wedding! That club was the start of bringing all of us from Newfoundland together. She was a fine time!”

Manny Pittson was the producer for the shows, having been at the helm of Don Messer's Jubiliee. "We used to record the backing tracks in a wrestling ring up in Hamilton," Pittson recalled. "The lights around the the neighbourhood used to dim when we started recording at the club.”

"We got a party going," said Ray Kent, Harry's first manager. "And Harry got that music going and he opened up people's hearts, they smiled more and they said, 'Do it again, Harry!' It was Newfoundlanders at their very best.”

The songs on this disc are the last surviving recordings from 7 years and over 150 shows. They represent a significant part in the Hall of Fame career of Newfoundland's Favourite Son, Harry Hibbs.
Selections on the CD include: Harry's Two Step, Harbour Grace / Golden Slippers (Live), Four Mary's, Roses Are Blooming (2017 Mix), Squid Jigging Ground, Rakes of Mellow (Live), Cliffs of Baccalieu, Rock Island Jig / Lili Marlene (Live), I'se da B'y, Paddy McGinty's Goat / Twiggle Toe (Live), Fella from Fortune, Minstrel Boy (Live), Ryans & Pittmans, The Humour Is on Me Now (Live), Memories

The Irish Descendants - Is Your Rhubarb Up
Is Your Rhubarb Up

“Is your rhubarb up” marks the 15th album release for The Irish Descendants since 1990. Recorded in February of 2018, it is the band’s first full length studio recording in ten years. About time we say and so it is with great pride we present our latest work.

There is no place with any deeper Irish roots than Newfoundland, and The Irish Descendants have captured the essence of the Music with their exquisitely produced, award-winning recordings, including a wide range from haunting ballads to high energy tapping reels.

The Irish Descendants have released many critically acclaimed albums, were named Best Roots/Traditional Artists at the East Coast Music Awards, won a Juno Award, signed a world-wide record deal with a major label, received numerous gold records and sold out concerts right across Canada and the U. S.

The success and longevity of The Irish Descendants, now in their 28th year is solely the result of a very loyal fan base that has since crossed two generations and who faithfully continue to come out to shows and support the group.

The Irish Descendants have had a long career and many successes. The future could not be brighter for the band that only gets better. Few bands last from one decade to the next, even fewer continue to make great music, and none continue to attract new fans the way The Irish Descendants do.

Harry Martin - Full Circle
Full Circle

Born and raised in Cartwright, Labrador, Harry Martin is a fourth generation Labradorian whose ancestry is a mixture of European settler and Labrador Inuit. He writes and sings songs that reflect the beauty of his beloved Labrador; its majestic mountains, wild untamed rivers and the quiet places. His compositions tell the stories of the pioneers and the old timers, and speak of the triumphs and tragedies of early life in Labrador that helped make it the cultural mosaic it is today. He sees his songs and stories as an effective way to preserve the land and inform audiences of Labrador's history.

Harry's songs quietly, yet forcefully, stress the need to protect our natural habitat and respect the old ways of life. He well knows and understands the stories of the early pioneers and the land he so loves from his involvement in professional and volunteer conservation work.

For twenty-eight years, Harry worked as a Wildlife Conservation Officer for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador's Wildlife Division in Cartwright, Labrador. The Masterless Men - Ode To Age
Ode To Age

This is the first album released by Newfoundland’s Masterless Men.

Where Did they come from?

The 1750's, press gangs of the British Navy ferried off many of the strong Irish youths from the southern and western Counties of Ireland to live and work under the most deplorable conditions for their British Masters in its far-flung New World Colonies. In the Colony of Avalon, now Ferryland on the Southern Shore of Newfoundland, these so-called "Irish Youngsters", under the strong and resourceful leadership of Peter Kerrivan, defied their masters' tyranny. Under sentence of hanging, this band of merry rogues retreated to freedom in the mountainous area of the Avalon Wilderness known as the Butter Pots. There they eluded and taunted their former British Masters and flourished for more than a century and became known as "Masterless Men".

For the next century the story for the "Masterless Men" was mostly forgotten, but did live on in the folk tradition of the Southern Shore. In 1991, a new band of Masterless Men was formed. Led by John Curran of Ferryland, this new breed of Masterless Men retreated, not to the Butter Pots... but to rehearsal halls and recording studios, to craft and refine their unique music and songs and create a new sound that has captured the hearts and imaginations of thousands.

Like their namesakes, The Masterless Men of today have evolved and grown. In their incarnation, they paid their dues, working the bars and community concert halls of the Southern Shore and St. John's. With the release of their first album, "Ode to Age" in 1993, they graduated to the larger festivals and concert halls around Newfoundland. Their much anticipated second album "Breakin' New Ground", released March 9th, 1996 was produced by Gabriel Award winning producer Gary O'Driscoll. This album builds on the success of their influences. They have been featured on several radio and television programs and have performed at premiere festivals and concerts to sell-out audiences throughout Atlantic Canada, New England and south to Florida. They have received numerous critical reviews and have appeared with such musical legends as Tommy Makem, Liam Clancy, Foster and Allen, and other internationally known artists.

The Masterless Men - Bramble & The Rose
Bramble & The Rose

“Bramble & The Rose” is the title of the CD and the first single from their newest release. This CD “Bramble & The Rose” was a long time coming but well worth the wait. Their last release, other than “Christmas with The Masterless Men”, was released in 2002.

As always The Masterless Men find some forgotten songs that are gems, and put a spin on them making them their own such as Tom Paxton’s beautiful “A Lesson Too Late For The Learning”, Johnny Cash’s “I Still Miss Someone” and “Steel Rails”. As well there are plenty of traditional songs here sure to satisfy their Newfoundland / Irish fans such as “God Save Ireland”, “The Parting Glass”, The Nightingale”, “Whiskey In The Jar” and some not so well known traditional songs “The Flower of Kilkenny” & “Carlingford Bay”.

John Curran said this about the new recording. There is little doubt that music is, as they say "The Universal Language". When a group such as ourselves, with so many diverse musical and cultural influences can sit around and make music somewhat effortlessly and enthusiastically, it speaks volumes about music...and I guess us! We shared ever so many laughs while in the studio arranging and recording this CD that it is almost a shame it is complete.

Patrick Moran & Chris Andrews - No Place Like Home
No Place Like Home

Patrick Moran (from The Punters) and Chris Andrews (the leader of the band Shanneyganock) have collaborated to bring a selection of old songs that have rarely been recorded and many that have never been previously recorded.

Being that Patrick and Chris are both from the Logy Bay and Torbay area, this selection of songs was mostly gleaned from people in the area.

Patrick and Chris are very talented in that they play a variety of instruments between them and both are excellent vocalists.

Pat Casey’s Song “The Hillsides of Torbay” features the outstanding vocals of a young up-and-coming musician, Allan Ricketts from Torbay. A great friend of Chris Andrews, Ed Caddigan, wrote the song “Treasures”, which will evoke much emotion from everyone that hears the song.

As is the case in Newfoundland, there are fun songs that we can all relate to (“The Berries” and “Phil Grace’s Truck”) as well as songs of tragedy (“The Water Witch”) and accomplishment (“9:13”).

A few of the selections from this CD are destined to become Newfoundland classics.

Towering Heights Of Newfoundland • Old Flatrock Hills • Boys In The Bunkhouse/Hogan’sCorner/Connor’s Horse • The Water Witch • 9:13 • Copper Top Torbay • Highwaymen Bold • Tread (On The Tail Of Me Coat) • The Hillsides Of Torbay • The Berries • Phil Grace’s Truck • The Star Of Logy Bay • Gallows Cove Bight • Treasures

Sandy Morris - Music From Land & Sea
Music From Land & Sea

More than a dozen evocative musical interludes from CBC’s popular and long-running Land & Sea television series - including the opening and closing themes so familiar to everyone who lives in the province - have just been released on CD.

Music from Land & Sea includes 14 pieces that Newfoundland musician Sandy Morris has married to the program’s moving images over the years. All of them were composed or arranged by Morris.

The recordings feature his signature guitar work and the accompaniment of Erin Best, Bill Brennan, Mary Brennan, Rick Hollett, Pat Moran, George Morgan, Byron Pardy, Angela Picket, and Billy Sutton.

The CD was Morris’s creative brainchild. He has been composing music for the program for the last ten seasons. “Land & Sea has always been very special to me,” he says. “It’s been great to be a part of the team. I think the music has added another level to the stories - it can deepen the sense of place and mood.”

Land & Sea has showcased the culture and history of Newfoundland and Labrador on CBC television for 40 years. Morris co-wrote the show’s closing theme (“Freestyle”) with Ralph Walker when the series first aired. That piece is included in the CD collection, as are two versions of the well-loved opening theme, “On the Beach” - both the one that airs on TV each week, and a newly composed longer version. No one knows who composed that tune, but its musical notation is reproduced in the CD’s liner notes.

A versatile and experienced guitarist, musician, composer, producer and engineer, Sandy Morris has enjoyed a musical career and been part of bands from the Wonderful Grand Band to Rasa and the Eight Track Favorites. He continues to perform, and has served as the musical director for numerous film and television projects and theatre productions across the province.

On The Beach (Opening Theme) • The Dance • 1000 Roads • The Badger Drive • Borealis • Aulatsivik • Honey Bee Waltz • Petite Suite • Peregrine • Stitches • Falabella • Bonay • On the Beach (Opening Theme) Extended Version • Freestyle (Closing Theme).

Navigators - Soldiers and Sailors
Soldiers and Sailors

The Navigators have become one of Atlantic Canada’s iconic traditional bands bringing together two of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most powerful baritones, Fred Jorgensen (whistles, bodhrán, guitar) and Arthur O’Brien (fiddle, acoustic/electric guitar). The two leading musicians of the Navigators, are hardly strangers to the folk music scene; prior to combining their talents in 2000, both performed extensively in other arrangements. The Navigators and their new recording Soldiers & Sailors delivers a mix of modern folk and traditional Irish Newfoundland melodies steeped in local folklore. It is an album best served with a pint of draught beer, to remind you where this music is brought to life.

Switching between O’Brien’s commanding baritone voice and Jorgensen’s unmistakable rasp, the songs are presented in a blunt, raw form that is instantly likeable.

With nine original songs, Soldiers & Sailors is a contemporary portrait of Newfoundland and Labrador. Many of the songs conjure up images embedded in the province’s psyche: “The Widow Maker,” “Pulling Oil From The Sand” and “Safely O’er The Sea”.

Fans will not be disappointed by Soldiers & Sailors, where the band remains true to their straightforward arrangements while expanding their own boundaries with songs that easily transition from whimsical to serious, guaranteed to get audiences dancing and singing.

Hoist a bottle and bellow “Sociable” onstage at a show. It’s what the Navigators desire.

CD Selections: Time Fly’s, Just Me, The Widow Maker, Pulling Oil From The Sand, All Hell For A Basement, Step It Out Mary, The Bold French Soldier, A Sunny Night In Paris, Sheddin’, He’s In The Band, The Queen Of Argyle, Safely O’er The Sea

The Punters - Fisherman's Blues
Fisherman's Blues

The Punters (Larry Foley and Patrick Moran) are key figures in the exciting music scene in Atlantic Canada. Drawing upon their rich musical heritage, The Punters combine rock, folk, and traditional music, creating a sound that is truly their own.

The Punters have three recordings under their belt since 1996 (The Punters, Said She Couldn't Dance, and Will You Wait), all three of which were met with national and critical acclaim. Fisherman's Blues, the band's fourth CD, is a testament to the strength and relevance of their musicianship and their unrelenting passion for the music of Newfoundland.

The self-produced Fisherman's Blues delivers a redefined sense of direction that is true to their roots (a little bit traditional, a little bit rock & roll). The CD showcases the band's growth and maturity, with a selection of pop songs, traditional songs, and their trademark instrumental tunes. The CD also features two songs which were written by Larry Foley that are true pop music gems ("She Ain't You" and "Close Your Eyes"). As well, there are great covers of some older and somewhat forgotten songs ("No Other Baby" and "Brown Eyed Handsome Man"), and traditional gems ("Heave Away", "Banks of Newfoundland" and "Big Bow Wow"). Patrick sings a traditional song, "I Had But 50 Cents", that has never been recorded, and is sure to be a staple on traditional music shows. The title track, "Fisherman's Blues" is a song the band has been performing since its inception. Included in this version is an original verse, written by Larry Foley, to reflect the realities of the fishing industry and out-migration in Newfoundland. Finally, Steve Earle's "Galway Girl" is given a Celtic feel and has become one of the most requested songs at The Punters' live shows.

On This CD, The Punters are joined by some of the best musicians in Newfoundland: including George Morgan, Paul "Boomer" Stamp, Adam Staple, Chris Batstone, Barry Hillier and Mark Hiscock. Fisherman's Blues is truly a home grown project and is arguably The Punters' best recording to date.

Shanneyganock is able to find some diamonds in the rough each time they embark on a new recording project, and this time is no exception. From the daily frolics in the hay in “Twice Daily”, the longing of days gone by in “The River” (Bruce Springsteen), to the pain and grief of having to leave in “Our Town” (Iris DeMent). As well, Shanneyganock put their own unique arrangements to traditional songs: “Courtin’ In The Kitchen”, which is done flatout, and two sets of instrumental tunes, “The Budgell’s Jigs" and “From The South Side Looking In” which are performed at a pace that will have your heart racing even if you’re not dancing.

There are a few humourous songs that will have you singing along: “Aunt Martha’s Sheep” (unlike any other recording of this well known song), and “Ain’t It A Beauty” (you’ll be surprised at what the song is about).

The CD does slow down, to give you a rest and to refill your glass, as Chris Andrews does one of the nicest versions ever of the Stan Rogers classic “45 Years".

If you are going to buy one party record this year.. This Is The One!!!!

Storms / Centennial Highway Reel • Twice Daily • The Budgell’s Jigs • 45 Years • Aunt Martha’s Sheep • Courtin’ In The Kitchen • Our Town • One Road • From The South Side Looking In • Jack Dolan • Go, Move, Shift (Moving On Song) • Ain’t It A Beauty • The River.

In the Christmas tradition, Shanneyganock has recorded some of the Christmas standards: “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”, “What Child Is This”, “We Three Kings”, and “O Holy Night”.

This CD also features “The Marvelous Toy” and “Rusty Chevrolet” which poke a little fun and show the lighter side of Christmas.

Chris and Mark also wrote another original song on the CD “Christmastime In Newfoundland” which tells the age old story of Newfoundlanders who want to be home at Christmas Time.

Shanneyganock The Tunes
Shanneyganock the tunes

Shanneyganock “the tunes”, is a compilation CD featuring the band and their instrumental side featuring the accordion playing of Mark Hiscock. Mark is widely recognized as one of the best button accordion players in Newfoundland & Labrador and has been a huge influence to many of the younger “button box” players.

In addition to the instrumental tunes from the Shanneyganock CD’s there are two tunes featured from the Chris Andrews & Mark Hiscock CD “Newfoundland” and two selections from Mark’s solo CD “The Music Takes Me Back”.

The tunes cover the progression of Mark and Shanneyganock’s maturation from their first recording in 1996 to the present. Although you can hear the progression of the music and the playing, you also recognize that the talent was pretty immense to start with and becomes more polished as time goes on.

This will surely be a treasured CD for the Shanneyganock fans that so dearly love “the tunes” and get up and dance at the first note from the button accordion.

Put it on.. turn it up on 10.. and dance the night away...

Selections featured on the CD are: Up The Pond (Banks Of Newfoundland), Creatures Of The Night/Kips Bay/Pull The Goalies, Cock Of The North / Brother’s Jig, After Hours, From The South Side Looking In, Rollicking Skipper/Pussycat Up The Plum Tree, Captain & His Whiskers/Four Poster Bed, The Budgell’s Jigs, The Jig is Up, Singles, The Old Man & The Old Woman, Buttons In The Wind, A Feed Of Duff, Beid Ril Againn - Selection Of Jiggs

Newfoundland & Labrador Journey DVD - Shanneyganock & Gerry Boland
Newfoundland & Labrador Journey DVD

Long time friends Gerry Boland and Chris Andrews often talked about combining the music of Shanneyganock with highlights from the thousands of hours of video footage Gerry had filmed over the decades.

Journey over land, sea and air, through the lens of Gerry Boland. Four decades of beautiful scenery showcasing Newfoundland and Labrador at it’s most majestic, natural and untouched.

“Journey” is more of a collection than a film- showcasing selections of footage covering all corners of Newfoundland & Labrador. Much of the footage is made up of clips that were shot for shows and films, but in the end wasn’t used because it didn’t fit into the timing of the story that was needed at that time. Magical moments, often times left on the editing floor, have been unearthed and for the first time seen by the public.

Join us on this “Journey” over the shores of Newfoundland & Labrador as we rant and roar to the soundtrack of Shanneyganock.

A must have DVD for Newfoundlanders & Labradorians and all lovers of Newfoundland & Labrador.

Any Mummers Allowed In? - Simani
Any Mummers Allowed In?

From the first knock on the door of the recording “Any Mummers Allowed In?” everyone was ready and knew that what SIMANI recorded was destined to become a classic.

Their LP “Christmas Fancy” was recorded in 1984 and “The Mummers Song”, as most people referred to it as, instantly became the most popular Christmas song ever recorded, performed or played in Newfoundland and Labrador. By this time SIMANI were already very popular and had recorded two previous LP’s “Saltwater Cowboys” and “Heaven By Sea”. After the release of the “Mummers Song” they were now major Newfoundland stars! The songs on “Christmas Fancy” as with most all of their recordings were written by Bud Davidge and Sim Savory made them shine with his instrumentation and production.

In 1993 SIMANI recorded another Christmas LP “Ooh! Christmas Tree” and the tradition continued with Bud Davidge writing all but one of the of the songs for the LP and Sim Savory contributing two instrumentals and most of the music..

Both these recordings have been available ever since and this year, some twenty six years after the original recording, we have decided to combine both recordings on one CD and include three Bonus Tracks, two of which were recorded live “Old Christmas Card” and “C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S“ and have never been released before and a newer recording of Bud Davidge with Leanne Chaulk “Christmas Eve With You”.

Sadly, early in 2010, Sim Savory was taken from us much too early after a long illness. He will be missed BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.

Selections on the CD include:Any Mummers Allowed In?, Promises To Keep, Crooked Stovepipe, Santa Just Might Not, One Wish, Christmas Fancy, Little Christmas Dream, Minnie White Medley, Changing Toys, Merry Christmas, World, Ooh! Christmas Tree, Merry Christmas, I Love You, Sally’s Jig/Cock Of The North, The Greatest Story, Jeannie Johannah, Bound For The Time, Nativity, Harvey’s Christmas Jig, New Year’s Dream, No Chimney He Can’t Climb, Christmas Eve With You(Bud Davidge & Leanne Chaulk), Old Christmas Card(Live Version), C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S(Live Version)

Irish Newfoundland Favourites - Various Artists
Irish Newfoundland Favourites

Our Newfoundland musical heritage is accentuated with the Irish from whence many of our forefathers emigrated to Newfoundland in search of a better life.

The songs of Newfoundland & Labrador are very heavily influenced by our Irish heritage and the connection borrowed from the melodies and the song styling (as with many folk songs) continues to this day.

Our Newfoundland songs tell their own story of politics, work, tragedy and humour.

Johnny Burke Songbook - Various Artists
Johnny Burke Songbook

Johnny Burke (1851 – 1930) was affectionately known as the "Bard of Prescott Street." Prescott Street being where he lived and worked for most of his adult life.

He was a singing poet; he recited poems of his own composition; and he wrote verse for the purpose of historical commentary. Newfoundlanders came to see Johnny Burke as the pre-eminent commentator on the fast-breaking events of the day, an editorialist, satirist, and busker all rolled into one.

His work as a popular artist was his consuming avocation: the public ate him up. Burke's practice was to write variously humorous, satirical, witty, and sentimental ballads on current events, as the occasion arose and with all the immediacy he could muster, then print them on broadsheets and hire boys to sell them in the streets of St. John's at two to five cents per copy.

His kind of commentary on Newfoundland attitudes was immensely popular. Burke did much to consolidate opinion in his day and the public came to believe nothing in Newfoundland was really finished, until Johnny Burke had written a song about it.

Burke's balladry ranges from parodic to satiric in mood. One of his most popular and enduring songs, and his personal favorite, "Cod Liver Oil" is a parody of a popular nineteenth century Irish song. In all his ballads Burke wrote original words but no musical accompaniment, relying instead on the well-known melodies of music-hall and stage-Irish songs of the day. Burke's best-written and most enduring songs gauge the tensions of social gatherings as captured in songs like "The Kelligrew's Soiree" and "The Trinity Cake”. J

ohnny Burke's songs became very well known, due in part to the broadsheets and songsters that he printed and sold as well as through local publications, the Gerald S Doyle Songbooks and the great oral tradition of folk music. And to this day Burke's songs are very much a staple for many well known and up and coming performers in Newfoundland & Labrador.

A cabin “Up At The Cabin” aah.. the joy of having a few friends at the cabin. “Peter Street” the story of a careless night on the town. Everyone’s favorite “Cock A Doodle Do” nothing to do with you! “Never Been There Before” people and places you go that you find you like and then you keep going back. The outhouse “Good Old Newfie Outhouse” cold nights and the joy of outdoor plumbing. Women Of Song
Women Of Song

The character of Newfoundland Labrador women was defined a long time ago by the women who took their place alongside the men in doing all kinds of hard work to keep and maintain a family life.

Many times and for long periods of time the men went away to work and provide for their families and the women stayed at home and took on the full responsibility for their homes and families.

Our women were very important in preserving the songs of their homeland and the newfound songs they learned in their new land.

The women singers in Newfoundland Labrador are a very talented group that can compare with the best anywhere in the world and we are pleased to be able to present and showcase some of them for you in this first in a series of CD’s titled “Newfoundland Labrador Women Of Song”.
