Simani - The Instrumental Side Of
Simani

The Newfoundland musical duet, SIMANI, have been a cornerstone in traditional Newfoundland music. Formed in 1977 by Bud Davidge and Sim Savory, their music helped keep our unique heritage alive by putting old stories to song and recording local jigs and reels, many that had never before been recorded. There is no doubt that SIMANI are a household name in Newfoundland and Labrador and surely there is a recording or two of SIMANI in virtually every house in the province, as well as in many expatriate Newfoundlander’s homes around the world.

Nearly all of SIMANI's recorded songs are originals, written by Bud Davidge who was also the vocalist for the group. Sim Savory is a gifted musician, being a master of many instruments, as well as a very talented sound engineer. That variety of talent worked very well for SIMANI and it showed in the quality of their recordings.

In a musical career that lasted from 1977 to 1997, SIMANI were stars with major radio airplay and sold out shows wherever they performed. Since their first recording “Saltwater Cowboys” in 1981, they have produced 12 recordings. To their credit SIMANI defined a sound that became predominant in many recording that were done in Newfoundland and Labrador in the 1980's. Their albums were mostly recorded at Sim's studio in Belleoram.

Unfortunately for the Newfoundland music scene Sim passed away in 2010 but Bud is still releasing solo recordings.

In 2002 SIMANI (Bud & Sim) were recognized for their long term contributions to the East Coast Music Industry by being presented with the Stompin' Tom Award at the East Coast Music Awards. In 2008 Bud and Sim were awarded the Music NL Lifetime Achievement Award.

SIMANI have an extensive catalogue of songs. Bud Davidge is quite an accomplished writer and singer and Sim gave that signature Simani instrumentation and sound to every recording. Because of their success with the Newfoundland & Country songs many of their Instrumental recordings were underappreciated. This collection will attest to their instrumental ability and we are pleased to present this compilation that captures

Our Newfoundland musical heritage is accentuated with the Irish from whence many of our forefathers emigrated to Newfoundland in search of a better life.

The songs of Newfoundland & Labrador are very heavily influenced by our Irish heritage and the connection borrowed from the melodies and the song styling (as with many folk songs) continues to this day.

Our Newfoundland songs tell their own story of politics, work, tragedy and humour.

Volume 4 in the Irish Newfoundland Favourites collection features a stellar selection that reflects the Irish Newfoundland connection.

Sit back and listen or sing along to your favourite song.

The 8 Track Favourites - Acoustic
8 Tracks Acoustic

The 8 Track Favourites, who have been together for the lastten years, are a group that has had a major buzz around them. Wherever they play, they are playing to packed houses.

The 8 Track Favourites is a supergroup who cover the old time country hits in their own style and dress on stage in hats and country attire reminiscent of the style of the older country performers.

“Acoustic” features mostly Larry Foley who is the main vocalist in the group with the recordings all produced in studio. “Acoustic” features a parcel of country songs that are not only familiar but are like old friends to fans of this style of music. The arrangements and instrumentation are kept simple so the song is the star of the show. Athey say all you need for a good country song is three chords and the truth and this recording is a testament to that fact and the great song writers that have shared their talents with us.

The only instruments on this recording are a 2011 Martin HD-28v, 64 Gibson banjo, Mock Green’s Takamine acoustic bass, an old Virginia mandolin and an old piano accordion.

Many thanks & happy listening.
