Through the Eyes of a Child is a Christmas album of original songs, and the culmination of three years of writing and crafting Christmas songs for the Newfoundland and Labrador market. It also has appeal for Newfoundlanders living abroad as the main theme of the album is the quandary of those living away wishing to be home for Christmas. Newfoundlanders at Christmastime all want to be home for Christmas and many journey long distances to do so.
All of the songs on Through The Eyes Of A Child, are John Phillips originals or co-writes with other artists, and reflect the events, joy, frustration, thoughtful wishes, heartbreak, longing, partying, and indeed the things that we all associate with the Christmas season. Only two of these songs were previously available. "This Christmas Count On Me" was released on The Christmas Wish and "The Only Thing Missing Is You" was released on The Christmas Wish 2.
"Rockin' The Rock" will have you singing along as it tells of coming home for Christmas and the partying and merriment surrounding Christmas as you visit friends and family and go mummering. "Christmas On The Island" speaks of sending gifts to friends and family who are no longer at home and the plight of Newfoundlanders who have to move away to find work. "The Happy Tree" is an upbeat song that tells about the frustration of having shopped all year but still having gifts to buy and getting panicked at The Happy Tree. (The Happy Tree is an institution in Newfoundland where people donate gifts and put them under a tree that is set up in the malls. The gifts are distributed to needy boys and girls by the Salvation Army) "Home For Christmas" is the story of a man who is very ill from working in the mines and wants nothing more this Christmas then to see his mother and father just one last time. "Christmas Is Real" tells of the look of mystification in a childs eyes as Christmas approaches. Through the eyes of a child Christmas is real, it's the time of their lives they truly believe. "Fishin' Days" talks about an older gentleman, who wants his life to be the way that it used to be in his fishing days, when he was able to fish and when there were fish to be caught. "The Star" is the ageless story, the greatest story ever told. Finally, "Christmas Memories" is an instrumental piece with the feel of the Christmas season.
Through The Eyes Of A Child will be a wonderful addition to your Christmas music collection.
